Ruffian's Corner
8.31.2004
8.17.2004 Well, the weekend was going pretty good. Speaking to friends, got a new writing offer, passing around a lot of my shirts, got to be Spidey... then came good ol' Monday. Paramus Court. Ya know, NJ has the sh*ttiest court system I've ever seen, and I can definitely speak about court rooms with a sense of expertise. That took forever. I talked them into no points, they said the fine, then I said my piece. I must be getting wiser in my old age, I used to do it the other way around. Did get to bump into Laura from the Harp and Bard for a quick coffee at the McDonald's off the parkway near there. The rest of the day has been a blur, though I did have a great dinner and got to drink lots of warmed Saki. God, I haven't had that since Kim and I used to write Facets of Honor. That was great. Sent a letter off to the Lads today. Glad to see their getting into the swing again too. Sean is MIA after terrorizing some of the local sessions in his neck of the woods. Take care of him you vicious trad players. To imagine, people actually sitting nicely in a circle and playing music. If I had my way, sessions would be atop o bars (or behind them). peace! Dan 8.13.2004 Ah, good old Friday the 13th, though almost the 14th of course!! Not really the bad luck day that everyone thinks that it is. Technically, there are many who once believed that it was propaganda from the devil or the luminates because of Jesus and the 12 disciples. Anyhoo, it's always been good luck for me. Now the 18th on the other hand, that's my bad luck date! Before I go into my travels to the Grand Canyon, Arizona and Vegas... did everyone see the opening of the Olympic Games? Very well done. The whole travel through the dawn of the Olympics... through the onset of Christianity in Greece... to the times that it stopped, and onto the future (which was something out of Gattaca with all those genes and DNA double helix floating around). It was very interesting. It really showed what a great culture for ideas, the arts, philosophies, etc they had (at least around Athens, we won't get into the stalety of Sparta and thus the wars) and showed that they were far ahead of the other cultures around them. Of course it never spoke of the Celts, who had their own form of Olympics that predated that of Greece's like 776 BC games, and it was actually ironic that when France restarted the idea of the Olympics back in the late 1800's, that it was an Irishman, James Connelly, who won the first Olympics. But we won't go into that history now, just a little FYI for the Ruffian fans (note: I may be a little off on some dates and whatnot, I often am, but that's close!!). Anyways, seeing Zeus, Athena, and I believe that was Hermes floating over the whole thing, was really neat. Well done Greece. My cap is off to you! And that anthem, that was great!! Oh, this of course could not come on until after the News went into it's ousting, sorry resignation, of our Mayor down here in good ol Jersey, for "being gay?!" Come on, you really think that's why he left, I think that's an excuse for something larger. Anyway, Vegas was great (minus the fact that they still have never found my damn luggage). We stayed in the NY Hotel, and that was a lot of fun. I had a Chicago hotdog down the road with everything on it, that was great. The next day we set out for the Grand Canyon. Wow, it's amazing what God can create. If you haven't been... go!! But I must say, the thing I had the most fun with were the blue-bellied swifts that were all around the Canyon. They were called something else, but that's what they were. Just like the ones Sean and I had when we were younger. I'll have to get the video on here of us playing with these two babies that we caught. And the crazy rock squirrel. He got me in trouble the Ranger because he made me pet him and pick him up, and then he ran up onto me. Crazy squirrel. The night before I got pictures of these huge elk. I mean like horses with antlers. Phew!! I got a little closer than I would have liked as I was following them through the viewfinder and walking. But when the babies walked by me, daddy elk let me know I should move back, and I was more than happy to!! The wedding was great, and I send out a very happy and special congratulations to Alfie and Beth. Stay blessed. Onto Ruffians. We're gearing up for our next recording and it's going to be great. Spoke with Bambi recently from Baltimore, as well as Mel. Definitely been a Baltimore week!! Mel's gonna help with some booking. If any of you miss us and want to see us in your areas, ask a pub and give us a call. We'll supply the date and we'd love to see you all again! Also spoke to Laura from Clifton. She misses me so much, that it looks like we may both be in court at the same time in the same town on Monday. Who knows!! She of course will probably get off, whereas I will probably piss my cop off even more than I did the night I got pulled over and lose my license. Let's hope not! (again!). The Ruffians are getting back into full-swing and we look forward to seeing everyone. We have some dates in Baltimore, Boston, Hartford, NYC (couple places), New Jersey, Long Island, and we're looking to see all of you soon. If it's been awhile since we've seen some of you, think about stopping up for a gig. We'd love to see you all. Good luck athletes, and I still challenge you a Guinness chugging contest. Happy almost Half Way to St. Patrick's Day one and all. YOu better be there with us to party! See you all soon, and have a wonderful weekend. Sorry, I'd be up later drinking and writing, but I have to be your friendly neighborhood Dan tomorrow if you insiders know what I mean!! BJ & J- Dan MAAANNNNN!!!!!!!!!! Check it out we are working on new material and will be recording our full length soon..... We will be having a show coming up at the hibernian on august 28th. Be there or be a sad bastard.
